Bale Mountains, Ethiopia
You can be quite certain of finding the Ethiopian Wolves and if you are really lucky, the Mountain Nyala might present itself. If you drive up you start on a windy track through the harenna cloud. The trees are giant with trunks and bark covered in thick layers of mosses and creepers. As you climb higher the road side shows off the most beautiful wild flowers of so many varieties. Then you are into giant heather, 30 feet tall, twisted, knarled, dank, reminiscent of Lord of the Rings. The very dark Melinik’s Bush Buck and Bale Monkey make these forests their home.
